The same is true for SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards (formerly Xcelsius), for which functionality will be merged into SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio. Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports will continue to be supported and enhanced.
Even when Dashboards and Explorer enter “end of life” mode so to speak, SAP may allow customers to maintain some content in them indefinitely.
SAP’s Jayne Landry, who is the global VP and GM of SAP Business Intelligence, said in an interview that the team is taking lessons from the mandated move from Desktop Intelligence to Web Intelligence, which resulted in SAP re-instating functionality in BI 4.1 that allows customers to access and view Deski content.
“In order to converge the tools, we do have to make some tough decisions on which tools move forward and where we will build up functionality over time,” Landry wrote in a blog published today on SAP’s Analytics Blog. “The key here is that as we do this, the tools you use today are not going away: in fact, you can continue to use them in perpetuity.”
